ASID Kitchen Tour-October 2010
ASID San Diego Presents Annual Kitchen Tour Oct. 23 with Nine Stunning Remodeled Kitchens
Tour showcases the latest trends in sustainability, space planning, custom cabinetry, high-efficiency appliances and innovative storage solutions
The American Society of Interior Designers’ self-guided Kitchen Tour, set for Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will showcase nine beautifully remodeled kitchens in San Diego County designed by some of the top designers in the region.
Stylish projects range from expansive great room renovations to cost-conscious tract home remodels. The designers show how to transform dated, dark and inefficient areas into open, spacious and multifunctional showplaces. These kitchens display the latest trends in sustainability, space planning, appliances and storage solutions.
“The ASID kitchen tour is a wonderful opportunity to see real functioning kitchens and speak with the designers who are experts at the design process and knowledgeable about all the available options,” said Kellie McCormick, ASID, San Diego chapter president. “In this new economy, people like to research and get a better understanding of what is available, so they have clear idea of budgets and how to prioritize. This tour is also a great, non-threatening way to chat with designers and see the benefits of hiring a designer, especially those who have never worked with one.”
Tour sites are located in San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Vista, Rancho Bernardo, Poway, and La Mesa. Individual tickets are $25 each and discounted group tickets are available. For information, call the ASID Information Line at (858) 646-9896 or visit http://www.asidsandiego.org/.

Orchids & Onions Call for Nominations
Deadline to nominate is August 30, 2010
The objective of Orchids & Onions is to inspire excellence in every aspect of San Diego’s built environment. By nominating what makes your heart soar, or what you see as an eyesore, you can have your say on the state of your city.
In starting to see how the economic climate is creating alterations in the way we think, plan, design and build, we’ve made an alteration to the O&O process, and added a ‘Miscellaneous’ Category. This new category encompasses everything and anything that the existing categories do not. Any nomination submitted to the Miscellaneous Category that is determined an Orchid or Onion will be recognized in a category specific to that project.
Commentary on all nominations is highly encouraged, especially from nominees. Tell us about your project. This allows the site visitor, juror and voter to learn as much as possible about the nominees. Effect change in your community. Nominate. Comment. Vote.
